In 2000, Samantha Lindley and Mike Cummings formed WVAG and devised this course in veterinary acupuncture that has, to date, taught more than 600 vets from Britain and from countries such as Portugal, Australia and Spain and also South Africa (where the first overseas Foundation course was run in 2009). The course was licensed to the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists from 2005 to 2010.

Samantha has been practising acupuncture since 1991 and runs pain clinics at Glasgow Vet School, Edinburgh Vet School and at Broadleys Veterinary Hospital in Stirling. She has been teaching on the British Medical Acupuncture Society courses since 1999 and in 2005 was invited to write a book on the “western” approach to veterinary acupuncture. This, in collaboration with Dr Mike Cummings, is published by Blackwells [Wiley] as “Essentials of Western Veterinary Acupuncture”. In 2010, BSAVA published The BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Rehabilitation, Palliative and Supportive Care, edited by Samantha and Penny Watson.

Dr Mike Cummings is Medical Director of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) and has been teaching vets acupuncture since 1998. His main responsibilities are running the BMAS London Teaching Clinic, the BMAS Foundation Courses in Western medical acupuncture for regulated health professionals, and editing, writing and research. He is an associate editor of Acupuncture in Medicine.
His main clinical interest is the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
